Dental Implants

Dental implants are the biggest advancement dentistry has made in the last 25 years.  Implants allow us to replace missing teeth in a way that is lifelike, permanent and functions just like a natural tooth, all without having to do any work on neighboring teeth.

What would cause you to need dental implants?

Despite all of the advanced in dental care throughout history, people continue to lose teeth. This could be due to genetics, poor dental hygiene, or other factors. When it comes down to it, if you’ve lost a tooth, you need an implant. Before dental implants were available, patients had to resort to dental bridges and dentures.

Dental implants provide a better quality of living than the aforementioned procedures. They are lifelike, permanent, and truly feel like your own teeth. After a while, you may even forget that you have implants! Dental implants allow you to eat with ease and live your life as though you had a full set of natural teeth. Even better, they look exactly like your other teeth! We can even match the color and shape so that no one else will know.

How are dental implants put in the mouth?

Each mouth is different, so we work with each patient to form an individualized implant procedure to ensure the process is successful and permanent. A titanium implant is placed into the root socket of your missing tooth. Following this procedure is a time of healing, generally around 6 to 12 weeks, where the jaw bone grows around the implant, holding it permanently in place.

After the titanium implant is fully healed, we make a new tooth and secure it to the titanium post with an abutment. The crown (replacement tooth) can be made to match your natural teeth exactly.

What maintenance is needed on dental implants?

After the initial healing process, you’ll take care of your dental implant the same as your natural teeth!
